MED-INFOCHIP, LLC, ANNOUNCES EXPANSION INTO THE EUROPEAN UNION WITH NEW PARTNERSHIP BASED IN BARCELONA, SPAIN
Med-InfoChip™ to be offered in multiple languages with distribution
BARCELONA, Spain - September 18, 2006
Med-InfoChip, LLC, announced today that it is expanding its distribution of Med-InfoChip™ into the European marketplace after reaching an exclusive agreement with a Spanish company based in Barcelona, Spain. MIC, as it will be marketed in Europe, is an innovative, self-contained product which allows a person to organize, carry and maintain a complete and detailed medical history--including x-rays, EKGs and complicated data. A small device, designed to be attached to a keychain or worn around the neck, MIC is lightweight, secure and affordable. It inserts into a USB port on any computer (Windows and Mac), making accurate information easily and instantly accessible by a physician, patient, or emergency responder. Michael Gordon will head up the European operation, known as Med-InfoChip, S.L., and will assume responsibility for marketing, packaging, localizing and distributing Med-InfoChip™ throughout the European Union. Gordon is a former executive with Picis, a world leading provider of information solutions that automate the clinical documentation and business practices throughout the high-acuity care areas in hospitals. "Our ability to localize the self-contained, password-protected software," Gordon said, "will allow individuals to travel throughout the E.U. and all over the world with their own medical history accessible and readable in multiple languages, truly a significant advance in portable medical recordkeeping." Users of Med-InfoChip™ can create a medical profile within minutes by filling out the easy-to-use template. Pre-designed forms include: allergies, diseases, medications, immunizations, emergency contacts, past medical procedures, family medical history, medical directives, insurance information and more. The capacity and design of the device allows users to store images such as scans of X-rays, EKGs, passports, birth certificates and photos. Whether they are healthy or sick, most people see one or more doctors or specialists per year, often several times. During these visits, they are typically asked to recite from memory myriad forms of information such as social security and private insurance data, doctor names and telephone numbers, medical conditions, medications and dosages, family ailments, allergies and immunizations. This is no easy task. "Everybodyespecially seniors, adults caring for both children and older family members, and business travelers--could benefit from having their personal medical profile with them wherever they go," says Dr. Carl Franzblau, President of Med-InfoChip, LLC and developer of the innovative product. In the past, that meant carrying around a folder full of forms from a variety of doctors. Today, thanks to digital technology, that information can be stored in a device small enough to fit on a keychain. "We're excited about the interest we're receiving from the European market," Franzblau says. Crisis situations can occur anytime and anyplace. An accident or sudden illness can bring a person to an emergency room in a strange city, to a doctor who doesn't know that person's medical history, he says. "That is why it makes sense to carry a MIC, which provides secure access to a person's vital medical information when it is needed," says the chip inventor who, in addition to being a physician, is a professor and Associate Dean of Boston University School of Medicine. Use of Med-InfoChip™ has already demonstrated in America that it can make medical practice simpler and safer. "When I make a first visit to a new doctor," said George Brucks of Boynton Beach, Fla., "I bring printouts of my medical profile from home. Instead of having to try and remember all of the medications I am taking, I just give the printouts to the office staff and nurses. Having the chip makes the process easier for both me and them." Med-InfoChip™ can be a valuable tool to a number of medical professionals, including primary care physicians, cardiologists, dentists and optometrists. "When I see new patients, they are required to fill out medical history forms. However, almost everyone struggles to remember most of the details necessary to complete the forms," said Dr. Ilana Orelowitz, a practicing optometrist in Medfield, Massachusetts. "The medical information chip saves patients a tremendous amount of time and frustration, and it provides me with the information I need. Having immediate access to a patient's comprehensive medical profile allows me to treat them more effectively." Gordon points out that we have entered a new era of medical record-keeping. "Given as a baby gift, MIC allows a newborn child to have access to vital details of his or her medical history from birth, an invaluable asset in dealing with medical problems later in life." Med-InfoChip, S.L. was founded in October of 2005 by Michael Gordon who discovered Med-InfoChip™ after witnessing a heart patient intake by a cardiologist at a leading Boston hospital emergency room. He immediately realized how valuable it could be to have patient medical history accessible not only in emergencies, but while traveling abroad and living in multi-lingual and multi-cultural environments, such as those within the European Union. The company is based in Sant Cugat del Vallés, just outside of Barcelona, Spain. For additional information, please visit www.medinfochipeurope.com. About Med-InfoChip, LLC Med-InfoChip, LLC was founded in January 2004 by Dr. Carl Franzblau, Professor and Associate Dean of Boston University School of Medicine, and Jay Kaplan. The two longtime friends had grown frustrated by the hassle in remembering their own medical information and transferring it accurately and quickly from one doctor to another. The pair recognized the value of having their medical profile with them at all times and collaborated on the development of Med-InfoChip™. Dr. Franzblau serves as president of Med-InfoChip, LLC, and Mr. Kaplan is managing director. The company is based in Boynton Beach, Florida.
